An excellent copy (seven volumes bound in one) in good preservation of the famous work on general history, composed around the turn of the 16th century C.E., by Muḥammad b. Khāvandshāh b. Maḥmūd, “Mīrkhānd”.

This MS comprises the first two juz', or parts, of the third volume of the well-known general history, which was originally written in 927-930 A.H. (1521-1524 C.E.), by the grandson of Mīrkhānd who had completed Rawz̤at al-ṣafāʼ (see Or Ms 71), Ghiyās al-Dīn, known as Khānd-Amīr.

Scope and Contents An authentic history of the great conqueror Tīmūr (Tamerlane) from his birth, 736 A.H. (1336 C.E.), to his death, 807 A.H. (1405 C.E.), collected from official records, by Mawlānā Sharaf al-Dīn 'Alī Yazdī (d. 858 A.H., 1454 C.E.), who was attached to the court of Sulṭān Shāhrukh Mīrzā, and subsequently of his son, Sulṭān Ibrāhīm Mīrzā, at whose desire the present work was compiled at Shiraz in four years and dedicated to Shāhrukh in 828 A.H. A Persian version of the autobiographical institutes, political and military, of Tīmūr. It is to be noted that these memoirs are usually named Malfūẓāt-i Tīmūrī and were first translated and presented to the Mughal Emperor Shāh-Jahān about 1047 A.H. (1637 C.E.) by Abū Ṭalib al-Ḥusaynī Khurāsānī, from a copy in Turkī in the library of the Pasha, of Yemen.

Scope and Contents This is only the fifth maqālah (chapter) of the Fawā'id-i Ṣafaviyyah, a history of the Safavid dynasty of Persia, which was originally written, according to the chronogram in 1211 A.H. (1796 C.E.), and dedicated to Abū al-Fatḥ Sulṭān Muḥammad Mīrzā Khān Bahādur, the last of the Safavid dynasty, who lived as an exile at Lucknow and received a pension from the East India Company. Scope and Contents A treatise on the rise and rule of the Wahābīs in Najaf Ashraf, containing a few prophecies connected with their expulsion from that region and the restoration of the holy places to the descendants of the martyrs. The author probably is Abū al-Fatḥ Sulṭān Muḥammad Ṣafavī (see Or Ms 86). At the end there is given a copy of a letter complaining that the practice of grave-worship among the people was not in accordance with the laws of Islam. Scope and Contents

A general history from the earliest times to 730 A.H. (1329 C.E.), the year, as it is stated in the preface, when it was compiled by Ḥamd-allāh b. 'Abī Bakr b. Aḥmad b. Naṣr Mustaufī Qazwīnī (d. 750 A.H., 1349 C.E.), and the present name, meaning "the select history" was given to it.

The first two pages and the frontispiece are richly illuminated; gold-lined throughout.

Scope and Contents A well-known general history in seven volumes, from the earliest times to the time of the author, Sayyid Muḥammad b. Burhān al-Dīn Khawand-Shāh (d. 903 A.H., 1498 C.E.). Most of the work was written by the author himself, but was completed by his grandson Ghiyās̱ al-Dīn Muḥammad b. Ḥāmid al-Dīn Khwand-Amīr (d. 942 A.H., 1535 C.E.).
